Motocaddy powers first ever 59 in PGA Europro Tour history

Motocaddy Masters

Jack South had his trusty Motocaddy trolley by his side as he made history by carding the first-ever 59 in PGA EuroPro Tour history, en route to capturing the Motocaddy Masters title and a life-changing £130,000. We sat down with Jack to find out a little more about his record-breaking round....

“I’ve used a Motocaddy S1 trolley for the last five years and I honestly wouldn’t go back to carrying a bag again as it put real strain on my lower back and my performances suffered as a result,” said Jack who won a brand new Motocaddy M5 GPS and a PRO 3000 Laser a part of his winner’s prize package.

“I had Paul Maddy caddying for me, but he didn’t want to carry either so it was like having two caddies walking next to me. I would 100% recommend to any golfer young or old that they use a Motocaddy electric trolley as it keeps your energy levels high and you feel fresh after your round,” he added.

The 29-year-old from Birmingham has played on Europe’s leading development tour for the past five years as a professional and hails from the Tippity Green Golf Club, less than 10 miles west of his hometown.

Starting the day three shots back, Jack began with birdies at the first and second at Leven Links Golf Club, on Scotland’s famous Fife coast, before going out in 27, having gone on a streak of five birdies from holes five to nine.

More birdies followed at 11 and 12 to be nine-under through 12 and two clear of the chasing pack and he needed two more birdies to guarantee the magical 59 figure. The first came at the par 4, 14th and another at the 16th before steering the ball home over the last two holes.

The Motocaddy Masters champion not only took home the £12,500 winner’s cheque, but also a £59,000 bonus from the EuroPro Tour and £60,000 from sponsors Cobra Puma Golf.

“It’s a phenomenal feeling. It’s been such a tough year and I’ve worked so hard without any reward. My fiancé, Samantha and I have got a little boy coming in January - I found that out last week and it’s just motivated me so much to get to where I want to be.

“I can’t thank the Tour and Motocaddy enough. The support we get and the prizes on offer doesn’t go unnoticed by the players and it’s a pleasure to play on such a well-run Tour,” he added.

Jack also won a second PRO 3000 Laser as part of a special skills-based challenge for the players sponsored by Motocaddy throughout the event with the winner carding the most birdies/eagles through the three rounds. Jack posted 22 birdies on his way to the title.

“The Laser looks quality and it’s going straight into play, but I’m not sure who’s getting my spare one yet!”

Quickfire Questions....

When did you start playing?

I started playing when I was 15.

Favourite course?

Probably TPC Deere Run as I got to play there a lot while in college.

Best tip for amateur golfers?

Take one extra club because normally they tend to under club and miss short frequently.

Career aspirations?

European Tour winner and reach top 50 in the OWGR.

Best ever round?

(I think we know the answer to this one!) Has to be the 59 to win the Motocaddy Masters on the PGA EuroPro Tour. Haha

Dream fourball?

Tiger Woods, Collin Morikawa and Michael Jordan.

What do you do outside of golf?

I like to go to the gym, run and spend time with my family.

The Masters or The Open?

It’s a close one but I think winning The Open at St Andrews would edge the Masters. Other than that, a green jacket would be preferred.
